Heartburn Heating Up? Swap the TUMS for ACV

Want to learn more?

Sometimes, you have to fight acid with acid.

If you’ve been dealing with acid reflux and heartburn, you’ve probably been taking an acid blocker such as TUMS. Or an antacid like Nexium. However, these “solutions” often aren’t really solutions at all. They’re merely a short-term fix. Once you stop taking them, your heartburn comes back. And here’s why.

One of the primary causes of acid reflux is insufficient stomach acid, NOT excess stomach acid. You need a sufficient amount of acid in your stomach to trigger your lower esophageal sphincter muscle to close. This stops any acid that is there from refluxing up into your esophagus giving you heartburn. When stomach acid is too low, this sphincter remains open. So it’s basically a free pass for any acid in your gut to spurt through.

You might be thinking “okay, but surely if acid is coming up then that means I have too much acid…”

And that’s a valid question, but the answer is a little more complex.

Once that sphincter is open, it doesn’t matter how much acid is there to reflux back up, because any amount of acid is going to feel like a lot when it enters the small space within your esophagus. So that’s why lots of people end up thinking they have too much stomach acid to begin with, and end up on acid blockers.

The second thing you might be thinking is “but TUMS helps my heartburn so it must be working.”

The thing about this is, it IS working in one sense.

It’s working in the short-term by blocking acid production completely, so that there is no acid in your gut to reflux back up through the open sphincter. However, it’s not working in a way that resolves your acid reflux long-term or helps to improve your digestion in any way. In fact – it only causes further digestion issues.

You need stomach acid to break down the food that you eat and ensure you absorb all of the goodness from those nutrients to help you feel healthy and energized. The answer to acid reflux is not blocking all acid production. The answer is to fix the problem with the sphincter muscle so that it closes properly again. It should keep your stomach acid where it’s meant to be – in your stomach! This prevents acid from refluxing back up and causing that dreaded heartburn.

So What’s the Answer?

One of the most natural ways to add acid to your stomach is with Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV). This has been used for centuries to treat a number of ailments and it’s a home remedy that actually works.

The thing about ACV is that although it works great, it doesn’t taste great! So we got to work on developing a delicious gummy alternative that’s sweetened with natural fruit flavors, giving you all of the benefits of ACV without the bitter taste.

This is particularly helpful if you suffer from on/off acid reflux rather than chronic acid reflux (GERD), which is better treated with the Heartburn Relief Kit. In the case of GERD, ACV can be a great add-on to the Heartburn Relief Kit when any flare ups occur.

In addition to preventing acid reflux and relieving heartburn, the benefits of ACV are pretty extensive!

Our ACV Gummies will help to optimize your acidity levels and prevent the acid reflux that leads to heartburn. Just pop 1-2 whenever you need them up to 3 times a day, and your heartburn will cool down in no time!
